You know you’ll look gorgeous or handsome because you’ve studied the trends in Washington, DC, wedding hairstyles. What you haven’t done is find a venue, pick a date, order the flowers, hire the officiant, or put together the guest list. Don’t get lost in the wedding details. Instead, read my short guide on how to plan a wedding. It will help keep you organized until you say, “I do!”
Start with the Wedding Preliminaries
Savvy couples start their wedding planning by narrowing down the dates for the ceremony. While the stars don’t need to align to come up with the ideal date, at least a few of them do. The goal is to pick a wedding date when your most important wedding guests (your family and friends), your favorite venue, and your preferred vendors are available. If your heart is set on an outdoor wedding or holiday nuptials, you’ll need to take those things into consideration as well. Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few dates and thought about how many guests you want to invite, you can begin calling venues.
Finding the Perfect Venue
Most couples have at least one favorite wedding venue in mind, but I recommend visiting a few before you make your final decision. Your venue is the stage where everything takes place on your wedding day. It’s the place where your family and friends come together and celebrate the start of your new life, together. It’s wonderful if you have a vision for your wedding before visiting venues, but if you don’t, you’ll find plenty of inspiration from one of the many online wedding planning sites, such as WeddingWire.
Choose Your Big Day Team
Now that you’ve procured your venue, choose the team that will help pull the rest of the details for your wedding day together. This is your “core team”, which includes your event planner, photographer, videographer, caterer, florist, stationer, and entertainment professionals. Your big day team is made up of the many vendors who you’ll work with during the wedding planning journey up to the day of the wedding. It’s important that you feel comfortable with them and trust their expertise. If you’re confused about how you find and select wedding vendors, The Knot is also a fantastic planning resource.
All the Other Details
Once you figure out the main pieces of the wedding day celebration, you’ll realize you still have an array of details that also need to fall into place. By now, you’ve likely ordered your dress or tuxedo but have you considered a second attire to wear after the ceremony? You’ll also want to continue tweaking your guest list. Invariably, you’ll find some people won’t be able to attend, which opens up room to invite a few others. Speaking of guests, don’t forget your bridal or groom registry. The registry helps your wedding guests give you gifts that you want at the showers or wedding.
